OUR VALUE ADDITION DIVISION
Our value-added activities are focused on transforming raw agricultural products into high-quality, market-ready goods, resulting in increased profitability for our farmer-partners and strengthening local agribusiness. By improving processing, packaging, and product quality, we help unlock the full economic potential of each crop and create new opportunities across the value chain.
Our processing facility, which is located in Lilongwe, carries out end-to-end processing of export-quality peanuts and common beans. For peanuts, this involves shelling, cleaning, sizing, and grading raw product, as well as the manufacturing of value-added products such as roasted and blanched nuts, crude peanut oil and cake, and peanut butter and paste, a critical ingredient for ready-to-use therapeutic foods (RUTS).
For common beans, we clean, grade, and pack red speckled, NUA 45, and white haricot varieties, for export to regional packing and canning companies, as well as to the domestic market.
Our approach integrates modern processing technologies, food safety standards, and efficient post-harvest handling practices that reduce losses and enhance shelf life.
OUR TECHNOLOGIES AND CAPACITY
For the grading process, we have a Buhler Sortex 2-Shute colour sorter, followed by hand grading belts. The single shift capacity of his line does depend on the quality of the input, but it is around 150MT per week.
We have a nut roasting facility which can roast and blanch around 10 MT of various nuts per week on a single shift. In addition, we have a pasting line which produces peanut butter for the local market, with neighbouring countries being explored for exports. Our capacity for pasting is in excess of 10 MT per week, utilizing 2 pasting machines.
We also have an oil extraction process using cold press, originally acquired from Germany, which is used for peanut oil products. The oil is extracted from grade outs. The cake is available for the feed market.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Quality is at the centre of our production activities. We focus on quality in order to consistently satisfy the needs of our customers and therefore to build a solid customer base.
We work hard to meet the QA standards set by the different countries in the region. Our internal lab perfoms hundreds of aflatoxin test each month and looks at both buying quality, as well as graded stocks. We carry out extensive testing for export markets. This is an enormous effort and needs constant attention.
Our mission is ensuring that the right quality of nut is matched with the right customer. Our team is a mix of new expertise and veterans, who have been with the company for some years and have good experience and understanding of our customers’ needs.
